This may be one of my favorite Japanese words ever, because it reminds me of this musical genre/subculture that I like called synthwave or vaporwave. It is music and art that is specifically designed to get you emotional about the past by using instrumentals and synths that you would normally find on an 80's track. I even made a Spotify playlist here: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/1N4P1wwAH59AQF0AoZDMow?si=4fj2SFKwQN62upD4rLECpQ

When analyzing this quote, I see it in a way that his suicidal tendencies have actually shaped the rest of his life. However, this is a very depressing quote, and if I were his friend or colleague, I would have given him this number:
4: One of my favorite lines within the poem is "And drown the wakeful anguish of the soul." This line just comes off as a deep sense of self-awareness, hence the word wakeful. In a way, the author implies that suffering is a necessary part of the human soul.
